As National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khaplang) chairman Shangwang Shangyung Khaplang passed away in Myanmar on June 9, it has been reported that V.Chairman Khango Konyak will lead the outfit.
Konyak was first enrolled in the Naga Army in 1963.In 1966, he was sent to Pakistan under Alee (Foreign) command.
He has also visited China in the year 1976.
He has commanded the Naga Army, in various capacities as Mobile Commander, Battalion Operations as well as Brigade Commander.
He also served as Council Guard commander in 1985 and GSO-II (General Staff Officer) in 2004 at General Headquarters.
Apart from military services, Khango Konyak was selected to the post of Chairman, Konyak Region in 1989. He also served as the president of the Tuensang-Mon Regional Union.
He was finally elected to the people’s council as Central Council Member (CCM).He was later inducted as the Kilo Kilonser, GPRN for his dedication and commitment.
Taking due cognizance of his efficiency accompanied with vast experience, Khango Konyak was elected to the post Vice-Chairman on May 20, 2011.
Another senior leader in the running is Nikki Sumi, who is part of the outfit’s military wing.
