At least one persons was killed and seven injured in a blast that occurred in front of Central Mall on RG Baruah Road in the city on Wednesday night.
Police said the blast suspected to a grenade blast occurred at a place just about 20 feet away from a police check post in front of the Central Mall.
The injured included two SSB jawans. All the injured were rushed to Guwahati Medical College Hospital. Police said investigation was on into to the blast. Police are not yet sure whether it was a grenade blast or a bomb blast.
However, city Police Commissioner, Dipak Kumar said that it was most likely a grenade blast and investigation was on to identify culprits behind the blast that might have targeted the regular police check post at the location.
The blast took place on the day when Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal reviewed the law and order situation and asked the top brass of the police to put a tab on criminal activities and provide security to every city dweller. (Source: The Shillong Times)
