Major Imliakum Keitzar, Shaurya Chakra

Major Imliakum Keitzar, a native of Nagaland, was conferred with Shaurya Chakra by the President of India on March 2018. The Army officer was honoured for displaying courage, selfless devotion and leadership during ‘Operation Rekha’ at Keran Sector in the Kupwara district of Jammu & Kashmir. He is the only person from Northeast to get the honour for 2018-19.

On June 9 last year, Major Keitzar went in pursuit of militants along the Line of Control (LoC) at Keran sector in Kupwara. During the operation, he showed extraordinary valour by eliminating three terrorists all by himself and one after another, risking his own life beyond the call of duty.

Keitzar joined the army in 2006 as Lieutenant after passing out from the Officers’ Training Academy in Chennai. He also served in the Indian Air Force from 2000 to 2006.
