The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the world surpassed 1 Crore (10 million) on Sunday. The COVID-19 dashboard of Johns Hopkins University’s showed 10,004,643 cases world-wide. Nearly 5 lakh people have died due to the virus.
North America, Latin America and Europe each account for around 25 per cent of the cases, while Asia and the Middle East have reported around 11 per cent.
The United States, Brazil, Russia, India and the United Kingdom are the countries with the most number of Coronavirus cases.
The COVID-19 pandemic has been compared to the Spanish flu of 1918. With the advancement of medical science COVID-19’s mortality rate has been much lesser than the Spanish flu pandemic.
Lasting February 1918 to April 1920, Spanish flu pandemic infected 500 million people in four successive waves. The death toll may have been anything from 17 million to 50 million, and possibly as high as 100 million, making it one of the deadliest pandemics in human history.
