Congress MLA Imtikumzuk will be the new deputy speaker of Nagaland Assembly as no nominations were filed for the post.
Assembly secretariat sources said Imtikumzuk was the lone contestant for the post and the today was the last day for withdrawal.
Election to the post is scheduled to be held on the first day of the Assembly session, which will commences tomorrow.
The post has fallen vacant after the elevation of Independent MLA Levi Rengma as parliamentary secretary in April.
The week-long Assembly session assumes significance as this would be first budget session of T R Zeliang-led ‘Opposition-less government’ in the state.
The chief minister, who heads Naga Peoples Front government, had created history by inducting seven out of the eight opposition Congress MLAs into his ministry on May 8 thereby converting the 60 member-House into an ‘Opposition-less’ government. (Agencies)
