A complaint against Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang, alias Taditui, was lodged for giving “false information”, under Section 125-A of the Representation of Peoples Act 1951 and for “cheating and forgery” attracting punishment under Sections 417/468 IPC.
The complaint was filed by one Kiesamyi Irangaung of Jalukie Town at the office of Senior Superintendent of Police, Kohima, today.
In the complaint letter, the complainant stated that TR Zeliang, alias Taditui Zeliang, had given false information in the affidavit during filing of nomination for elections to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
Quoting the biography details of “Who is Who” of 2013 published by the Government of Nagaland, and that of personal profile signed by him on August 6, 2008, the complainant stated TR Zeliang, alias Taditui Zeliang, had entered his educational qualification as Graduate from Arts College, Kohima, 1979, whereas while serving as Minister, Planning & Coordination, Evaluation and AH, Parliamentary Affairs, he had documented his qualification as BA passed from Kohma College, Kohima, in 1980.
The complainant further stated that in the recently concluded election of 2013, in the result of the Election under the Affidavit Summary, the education of T R Zeliang alias Taditui Zeliang is shown as Graduate.
The complainant claimed that the year of passing BA is contradictory as there are 2 years of passing (graduation) by himself i.e., 1979 and 1980, whereas, the complainant alleged that he miserably failed in 1979 and there is no record of him appearing the BA final examinations in 1980.
Quoting information, sought under RTI and supplied by the Kohima Arts College authority by letter dated 28th July 2015, the complainant stated that Zeliang had entered his name as Taditui Zeliang, bearing Roll No 598, and that he had never passed his BA examinations in 1979.
“The result will show that he failed in all subjects of the BA examinations in 1979 which is shocking for us and the most embarrassment for himself as a public leader,” the complainant claimed adding Zeliang never appeared BA Examination in 1980, the result of which is also supplied by the Kohima Arts College authority and submitted to the SSP.
The complainant further stated that TR Zeliang had committed the offence of giving false information in the affidavit during nomination in 2013 state Assembly elections, which he knows or has the reason to believe to be false and attracting the provision of Section 125-A of the Representation of Peoples Act 1951, besides committing the offence of cheating and forgery attracting the penalty of punishment under Section 417/468 of the Indian Penal Code.
The complainant also referred the case of Jitendra Singh Tomar, former Minister of Law and Justice of the Delhi Government, who had to resign from his post after being arrested by the Delhi Police for distorting his qualification as a Law graduate.
The complainant further stated that the fake degree of Jitendra Singh Tomar should be an eye-opener and an example in the case of TR Zeliang that merit similar penalty in the interest of justice. (page News Service)
