Punjab Police has taken Paras Singh, a social media influencer and YouTuber under custody or his alleged racial remarks against a Congress MLA from Arunachal Pradesh and “ill will towards the people of the state”.
Paras Singh, who goes by the name ‘Paras Official’ on his YouTube channel, had in a video posted on Sunday termed Arunachal Pradesh Congress MLA Ninong Ering a “non-Indian” and apparently claimed the “state was a part of China”, sparking furore among Arunchalees as well as people from other parts of the country.
“A case has been registered against Paras for racial hatred and the cyber crime branch in Itanagar is investigating the matter,” DGP R P Upadhyaya said on Monday.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, in his Twitter account in Tuesday, mentioned that Arunachal Pradesh team was reaching Punjab so that Paras can be brought to Arunachal Pradesh.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu, taking to Twitter, condemned the racial slur and said the “video aims at inciting ill will and hatred towards the people of Arunachal Pradesh”.
Paras Singh had posted the video to criticise a letter MLA Ninong Ering wrote to PM Narendra Modi. In the letter, the legislator asked the Prime Minister not to allow the re-launch of PUBG Mobile India’s new version Battlegrounds Mobile India.
Ering says the re-launch is a “mere illusion and a trick” to collect user data of millions of Indian citizens. This data, says the MLA from Arunachal Pradesh, will then be shared with foreign companies and the Chinese government.
