Acting on a tip off, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), in association with the Central Crime Branch (CCB) in Bengaluru on Friday, have arrested a 27 year old Naga insurgent in connection with an attack on a contingent of Assam Rifles in Kohima during March this year.
Arrest of the member of Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland – Khaplang (NSCN-K), which is declared as a terrorist organisation in India under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAP), is the third arrest in connection to the incident that took place in Indira Gandhi Stadium of Kohima wherein six armed men had opened firing on Assam Rifles leaving one person dead and three others injured.
The arrested person has been identified as Atoshe s/o Zuhushe from Zunuhuboto district of Nagaland. He was detained from a lodge near MG Road, a major commercial hub in Bengaluru. NIA officials confirmed that he is a member of the banned organisation NSCN Khaplang and wanted by the investigation agency under various sections of sections of UAP Act.
Police sources said the man from the banned outfit had produced fake identity proof with the lodge management for his stay. “The arrested person has been produced before the city magistrate and preparations are on to shift him to Nagaland by obtaining transit warrant,” he added.
Sources with the NIA said the arrested person came to Bengaluru six months back and was employed at a hotel. “He used to shift his accommodation frequently and there were reports about him staying in places like Ejipura, Neelasandra and finally he shifted to a lodge near MG Road. His sister also used to stay in Bengaluru but she has moved out now,” said an official.
First arrest in the case was made by NIA during May this year when they arrested Khekaho Rochill (34), self-styled finance secretary of NSCN, from Dimapur in Nagaland. (Agencies)
