The Home Commissioner, Government of Nagaland has on Friday directed the Director General of Police and the Commissioner, Nagaland, to take stringent measures to check anti-social elements harassing the business community as they “reflect adversely on the law enforcing agency as well as on the State Government.”
While reiterating several instructions for the police to take up, the Home Commissioner also appealed Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry to call off its indefinite shutter down of business establishments. DCCI is protesting unabated taxation, extortion and harassment by the various Naga Political Groups (NPGs) on the business community and demanding that the State Government take concrete steps to protect its community.
The instructions given by the Nagaland Government to the District Administration and the Police to tackle the issue includes:
- Any violation of the Ceasefire Ground Rules should be reported to the Chairman, Ceasefire Monitoring Croup/Ceasefire Supervisory Board for appropriate Action.
- Police to continue arrest of “Underground” cadres found extorting, collecting taxes and detain such culprits under National Security Act (NSA).
- The Commissioner of Police should increase police patrolling in market areas and business locations. IRB may be deployed to instil confidence among the public.
- Business shops may be advised to install CCTV.
- Police should check movement of antisocial clement with more surveillance through CCTV, security cameras in the market areas.
- Special cell be formed by the Commissioner of Police to exclusives deal with extortion cases/incidents.
