In view of high traffic congestion due to festive season and on-going rehabilitation work of Road Over Bridge (ROB) near Hotel Senti, the Dimapur police have ordered to enforce Odd-Even System for all vehicles including 2-wheelers within DMC Dimapur jurisdiction for a period of one month or till the completion of ROB rehabilitation.
In an order, K Sophie, Commissioner of Police notified that the odd-even system would be brought into effect from December 10 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
As per the new system, on odd dates (i.e. 11th, 13th 15th and so on) only vehicles ending with odd registration numbers (i.e. 1, 3, 5, 7 & 9) would be allowed to ply while on even dates (i.e. 10th 12th, 14th and so on) only vehicles ending with even registration numbers (i.e. 0, 2, 4, 6 & 8) would be allowed to ply.
Dimapur police have, however, stated that the restriction would not be enforced on Sundays, December 25, 2024 (Christmas Day) and January 1, 2025 (New Year Day).
Meanwhile, police have exempted government registered vehicles, emergency service vehicles, school buses and public transport including four and two-wheeler taxis except autorickshaws.
Dimapur police have cautioned that violation of the order would be penalized U/S 177 and 179 of the MV Act 1988.
For successful implementation of the odd-even exercise, police have requested the public to cooperate accordingly and avoid unnecessary travels. Police also recommended car-pooling to avoid inconveniences.
