Jorhat:The Jorhat district administration along with the heads of various departments have connected themselves by using mobile technology – WhatsApp – for better and faster administration.

Jorhat deputy commissioner Solanki Vishal Vasant told this correspondent that the district administration had started using WhatsApp via mobile phones among senior officials of all departments to remain connected all the time in order to have better coordination and interaction among themselves.

“With an aim to speed up functioning of the government machinery all senior officials of the district administration along with heads of all the departments have been connected to the modern communication tool for prompt disposal of work and better supervision,” Vishal said.

The deputy commissioner said a group led by him had been formed at the district level having the superintendent of police, heads of all departments, senior officers from the district administration and two subdivisional officers of Titabar and Majuli subdivisions.

Vishal said the advantage of using WhatsApp is that all key persons of the district remain connected round the clock and any information can be shared instantly. Moreover, important instructions can be issued to officials concerned at any time and work can get done in a short time.He said the service (mobile application), too, is cost effective.

Vishal said he had interacted with all the officials on a daily basis and sought progress reports on a wide range of matters. He said field visits by officials of different departments along with pictures of their visits to the sites and status update of projects and government schemes were sent to him on a daily basis.

“I could give directions to any department head or any magistrate under me any time. The officials too could approach me any time whenever they face problems,” Vishal said.

He said he too could address the problems put forward to him by officials promptly by using the new mobile application service. Coordination between the departments too had increased and pace of work had gone up in about a month after the new communication service through the mobile phones was started by the administration, Vishal said.

Titabar subdivisional officer (civil) Roshni A. Korati said a group led by her having heads of all departments of the subdivision and a few officials of the subdivision were using WhatsApp to stay connected. She said now the pace of work in government offices has increased and sheand her colleagues now remain updated.

Official sources said the top civil and police officers of the state government in Dispur too had formed a group in recent times linked via WhatsApp that also includes all deputy commissioners and superintendents of police.

The principal secretary to the chief minister and home and political departments, M.G.V.K Bhanu, very often has been issuing instructions to the DCs and SPs through the mobile application and has been seeking reports on different matters, sources said. (Telegraph India)
