The first medical college in Mizoram will begin its academic session from August at its temporary campus in the State Referral Hospital in Falkawn on the northern outskirts here.
An official of the state directorate of hospital and medical education said the college would enrol 50 students, local and those selected from the rest of the Northeast and the country.
He said two hospitals – the referral hospital and another civil hospital in Aizawl – would be attached with the medical college initially.
The Centre has already granted Rs 100 crore as first instalment towards building administration and classroom buildings and a new hospital for the college at Falkawn.
The annual budget of the health and family welfare department for the 2015-16 fiscal had earmarked Rs 164.55 crore for health services and Rs 39.18 crore for hospital administration and medical education. (Agencies)
