Doctor tests positive for COVID-19 in Meghalaya

Meghalaya reported its first COVID-19 case on Monday after a Shillong based doctor tested positive for the virus. Confirming the report, Meghalaya chief secretary said, in a press release, that a doctor from Bethany hospital has tested positive for coronavirus.

Health authorities in Shillong have decided to turn the hospital into a quarantine camp and taken measures to test all patients, doctors and staff working there.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has directed the health department to ensure that no patient, doctor, nurse or other health workers from the hospital where the doctor worked comes out of the hospital premises.

Meghalaya health minister AL Hek said that his department is now trying to locate all the persons who were in contact with the doctor.

Journalist Atanu Bhuyan in his tweet said that the doctor’s son-in-law had returned from New York on 22 March.

Bethany hospital is located just opposite to Nagaland house in Shillong.
