Watch: Assam CM shares video of Mizoram police “escalating” the tension

Amid escalating border tensions between the two northeastern states, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Tuesday tweeted a purported video of Mizoram Police criticising their behaviour.

In the video, the police personnel can be seen relaxing on ground while one of them is smoking in the background. “Look at this video to know how personnel of Mizoram Police acted and escalated the issue,” Sarma tweeted, calling it “sad and horrific”.

His remarks come in the view of 6 Assam Police personnel losing their lives during clashes with Mizoram Police, which also injured 50 other policemen.

Meanwhile, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said that the Assam government will move the Supreme Court seeking protection of Innerline Forest Reserve. He told a press conference in Silchar that satellite images have shown that roads are being constructed and forests cleared for jhum cultivation which cannot be allowed. “We will move the Supreme Court to ensure that the forests are protected,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mizoram CM Zoramthanga has said that Assam police had crossed the border first and also crossed the CRPF camp located in the border between the two states.
