Kuki-Zo community welcomes Manipur President’s Rule

Manipur CM Biren Singh

Welcoming the President’s Rule, Ginza Vualzong, spokesperson of Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF), said the central rule was preferable than a change of Chief Minister. “The Kuki-Zo community do not trust Meiteis anymore, so a new Meitei CM is still far from comforting.”

“The President’s Rule will give a ray of hope to the Kuki-Zo, and we believe that it will be one step closer to our political solution. With the President’s Rule, I believe the groundwork to end violence will begin, which will pave the way for a conducive environment for political dialogue,” Vualzong said.

ITLF and several other Kuki organisations have been demanding a “separate administration” comprising the Kuki-dominated districts such as Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi and Pherzwl.

The president’s rule was imposted in Manipur days after chief minister Biren Singh resigned from the top post.
