New cricket stadium in Guwahati ready for India Vs Australia ODI

The newly built Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati will host the second T20 International between India and Australia on October 10th, 2017.

Assam normally experiences slight to moderate rainfall during September-October with incessant rain and floods already gripping the capital city.

Assam Cricket Association (ACA) Vice President Devajit Lon Saikia claimed that the drainage facilities at the stadium were better than at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

“Even if it rains for five days continuously, and the rain stops half an hour before the start of the match, we can have a full match. We have a better underground drainage system than the Eden Gardens and I am confident about it,” Saikia said

Javagal Srinath, the ICC representative expressed satisfaction with the preparation at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, which has now been named Dr Bhupen Hazarika Cricket Stadium. Srinath visited the stadium for inspection and was satisfied with facilities available at the newly-built stadium.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed his satisfaction with the new stadium, which has a capacity of 60,000. A total of 37,800 tickets will go up for sale soon. Curator Mukut Kalita has lauded the pitch surface as “one of the best in the country.”
