Two time olympic medalist wrestler Sushil Kumar was arrested by Delhi Police on Sunday in connection with the murder case involving a 23-year-old wrestler following a brawl at the Chhatrasal Stadium in New Delhi, India Today has reported.

Sushil Kumar and his associate Ajay Kumar were arrested in Mundka, a town in West Delhi. As it turned out, Sushil and his associate had left their car and were riding a scooter while on their way to meet someone in the national capital before they were arrested.

In a bid to evade arrest, Sushil was constantly changing locations. It emerged that Sushil had left for Haridwar and Rishikesh after the death of Sagar Rana, the 23-year-old wrestler on May 5. He returned to Delhi later but was not found at his residence when Delhi Police raided his place.

Earlier, the Delhi Police had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for information leading to the arrest of Sushil Kumar.

Notably, pictures of the decorated wrestler sitting in his car emerged from information accessed by India Today from a toll plaza in Meerut. The police have added that the picture is from May 6, a day after the murder of international wrestler Rana following a brawl. The Delhi Police was trying to track the car with the help of this picture.

An FIR of murder, abduction and criminal conspiracy was registered against Sushil Kumar. Last week, a Delhi Court had issued a non-bailable warrant against Sushil and six others in connection with the Chhatrasal Stadium brawl days after a lookout notice was issued against the two-time Olympic medalist in the same case.

Sagar Rana had been training at the Chhatrasal Stadium where Sushil had been a respected figure. Sagar died while two of the young wrestler’s friends were injured after they were allegedly assaulted by Sushil and some other wrestlers on May 4.

Victims in the case alleged that Sushil was present at the spot when the incident took place. The victims, in their statements, have alleged that Sushil and his associates abducted Sagar from his house in Model Town to teach him a lesson for bad-mouthing him in front of other wrestlers, police had said.
