NDPP-BJP all set to form new government; NPF single largest party

The Neiphiu Rio led Nationalist Democractic Progressive Party (NDPP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance is all set to form the new government in Nagaland. Counting of votes started at 8 AM today. Seats won Party-wise are as follows:
NPF: 27
NDPP: 17
BJP: 12
NPP: 2
JD(U): 1
Independent: 1
Total Seats: 60

Political parties went on a frenzy after it became clear that there was no clear majorty for the contending parties. However, sources have confirmed that the NDPP-BJP alliance has managed to win the support of independent MLA Tongpang Ozukum and JD(U) MLA Kaito Aye. With this, NDPP-BJP alliance’s tally goes up to 31 seats.

There are also reports that NPF candidate from Tenning A/C NR Zeliang has been mistakenly decalred winner. President of NDPP Peren division has filed a complaint with the Returning Officer in this regard. If NDPP candidate Namri Nchang is declared winner, the NDPP-BJP alliance’s tally will go up to a comfortable 32 seats.

Earlier today, BJP’s General Secretary in-charge of Nagaland Ram Madhav has expressed confidence in Twitter that the NDPP-BJP allaince will form the next Government in Nagaland.
