Neiphiu Rio Appointed Chief Minister

Governor of Nagaland PB Acharya on Tuesday appointed Neiphiu Rio, the leader of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), as chief minister.

Acharya asked Rio to prove he has the support of a majority of lawmakers in the 60-member Nagaland Assembly on, or before March 16.

Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang resigned today, day after the BJP made it clear it would stick to its pre-poll ally Nationalist Democratic People’s Party (NDPP). NDPP leader and former chief minister Neiphiu Rio is expected to be sworn in on March 8.
