UGs employing public to extort

Saturday was another busy day for Nagaland’s nightmare district, Dimapur, the commercial capital of the state as the town’s police arrested two persons who were subsequently ascertained to have been employed by the underground organizations to extort from the population.

On January 3 at around 1: 00 PM, the Dimapur police arrested two persons identified as one Amento Chopy, 31 years of Hoito village under Diphupar, and a Kavito Achumi, 30 years, of Lochumi village under Akuluto in Zunheboto.
The two antisocial were extorting in the name of underground groups, the public Relations Officer of Dimapur police informed in a note on Saturday.The police found on the two extortionists extorted money amounting to Rs. 5, 610, receipts of so-called “vehicle tax” for transportation of bricks belonging to the “peoples republic of Nagalim, Ministry of Chaplee,” brick “challan” belonging to the “federal Government of Nagaland,” and a “lorry Challan-Guide Pass Association”.

“It is ascertained that they were employed by the UGs for collection of taxes at Bamunpukhuri area. Accordingly a case has been registered at Dimapur East PS for further investigation,” the police informed. (Eastern Mirror News)
