MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu today expressed his utter dismay over the usage of the word “Mini Hornbill” in the state’s programme for tribal festivals in Nagaland.
“The words ‘Mini Hornbill’ will camouflage all other tribal festivals and therefore it should be done away in order to promote tribal culture and tradition, Azo said while gracing day-three of Sükrünye Mini Hornbill Festival here.
He said the word “Hornbill” (festival) was very befitting as it is a conglomeration of different tribal festivals. However, for the districts the usage of original nomenclature only of the tribal festivals must be encouraged and therefore, the “Mini Hornbill” words must be done away with.
Azo emphasized on the importance of cultural continuity and preserving one’s culture and traditions in this fast changing world.
Touching on the issue of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, Azo cautioned the people about the dangers lurking around if the Act was implementation.
“We can’t become second class citizens in our own land. We can’t allow some foreigners to come and control/rule us. I can’t allow that to happen to my people during my leadership,” he added.
