DGP Nagaland, T John Longkumer has intorduced fresh measures in a bid to improve Dimapur’s security. He held an emergency meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur and senior officers to review and assess the recent spate of firing incidents in sensitive pockets of the district.
A press release from the PRO of Dimapur police on Friday stated that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to investigate into the matter which will be headed by a senior officer in the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police.
“To ensure better deliverance of security services to the public, reinforcement of manpower in the form of IRB has also been ordered to deter further erosion of law and order. DGP Nagaland has also approved the provision of 50 new motorcycles to form a motorcycle squad to assist the already existing machinery in place in the district.
“This will enhance mobility and speedy reaction to any contingencies. Forty new communication sets have also been sanctioned for this purpose. Further, to enhance the firepower capacity of the district force, 50 Glock-17 pistols have been provided. The DGP stressed that all these new assets, manpower and new security network should be implemented within the week. It was also decided to reinforce the beat patrolling system within the district for more effective policing,” it informed.
The DGP also sanctioned INR 5 lakh to procure new high capacity CCTVs which will be placed at strategic locations to aid intelligence collection and also assist investigation. “It may be noted that images from CCTVs installed in various locations have thrown light in zeroing down of the vehicles allegedly used by suspected miscreants in the firing incidents.”
A new police assistant/beat post in the vicinity of NRL petrol pump, 2 ½ Mile will also be established to provide security to the public, it informed.
They also appealed to the citizens to come forward with any information that would assist in the investigation of the various cases. “Suitable monetary rewards would be given to any responsible citizens who can divulge credible information/inputs which can lead to arrest or prevent commission of further cognisable crimes. Anonymity of the informant to be ensured on receiving of any credible information (sic).”
