Delhi based Naga student organisations have appealed to chief minister Neiphiu Rio to relax norms for availing the one-time assistance of Rs 10,000 offered to citizens of Nagaland struck in different parts of the country who chose not to return.
Delhi Ao Kaketshir Telongjem (DAKT), Lotha Students’ Union Delhi (LSUD) and Delhi Eastern Naga Students’ Union (DENSU) have written to the CM and have alleged that many who had opted to stay back did not receive the one-time financial assistance and sought his intervention into the matter.
DAKT wrote that the State government’s May 12 notification had stated that the assistance would be provided to citizens who chose not to return, the organisation said it assumed that everyone would be included. However, later notification and information on the website iamstranded.nagaland.gov.in mentioned that the offer was exclusively meant for those who had filled up the return declaration form and opted to stay back. Claiming that this failed to meet the concern of the stranded people, DAKT urged Rio not to exclude anyone voluntarily staying back.
DENSU and LSUD have also raised similar concerns.
