“Info on UG relatives was asked by Governor”: State Govt.

In the backdrop of public response on the matter of Govt officials requiring to furnish information regarding their family members and relatives in Naga political groups (UGs), the state Govt has clarified that the decision of the government to issue the office memorandum dated 7th July 2020 was made on the direction of the Governor.

The state Govt clarified that On 14th Feb, the office of the Governor through its Commissioner and Secretary had written to the Chief secretary on the Governor’s desire to have the database of state Govt employees’family members and relatives in UG organizations. The letter desired members of the police department to be segregated and furnished separately.

A reminder letter was received by the chief secretary’s office from the Governor’s office on 24th June, 2020.

The self declaration form asks employees if there are any member or close relatives of theirs who are members of a Naga underground organization. If yes, they are asked the name of the person who is member of a UG organization, the nature of relationship with the Government employee, name of the underground organization of which he/she is a member, and the position/rank presently held in the UG organization.
