Chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, inaugurated Noklak as the 12th district of Nagaland on January 20, 2021 in the presence of deputy chief minister Y. Patton, advisor L.Khumo and advisor H.Haiying.
Speaking at the inaugural programme of Noklak district cum Khaozaosie-Hok-Ah festival as special guest, the chief minister extended his best wishes to the people of Noklak and expressed hope that Noklak district would set a good example.
According to a DIPR report, the chief minister encouraged all to have a competitive spirit and to co-operate with the government for all round development. He also called upon the people of Noklak district to be self sufficient. Besides, Rio encouraged the young people to start modern farming. The chief minister named Noklak district as ‘Frontier District’ as the district was located in the international boundary with Myanmar, which connects to other East and South East Asian countries. Further, Rio appealed to all responsible to safeguard and protect the region.
With regard to the COVID-19 vaccine, Rio asserted that preference would be given to health care workers, frontline workers and elderly people who were above 50 years of age.
On the occasion, Rio also greeted the people of Khiamniungan community a happy Khaozaosie-Hok-Ah festival, and hoped that it would usher in a prosperous year.
State deputy chief minister, Y Patton, while exhorting the gathering, advised the people of Noklak district to be peace loving citizens. “If people are united, Noklak will be more advanced district in Nagaland,” he said and urged people to avoid land issues when it comes to development.
Advisor Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Eco & Statistics and Evaluation, L. Khumo, advisor Prisons, Printing & Stationery H. Haiying, state chief secretary J. Alam, deputy commissioner Tuensang, Kumar Ramnikant, Khiamniungan Tribal Council president M.Thangou also spoke on the occasion.
Khiamniungan Baptist Churches Association (KBCA) executive secretary, P.Hempao Lam dedicated the monolith during the inaugural ceremony while special numbers were presented by K.Okie and the Forlic band. Earlier, DC Noklak, Reny Wilfred, welcomed the gathering. Superintendent of Police Noklak, Dr.Pritpal Kaur Batra, proposed the vote of thanks.
Meanwhile, vice president of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu released a video on Noklak district’s profile and extended his best wishes to the new district. (N.Post)
