Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton who also holds the PWD (Roads & Bridges) portfolio, inspected the ongoing road construction site at National Highway-29 on February 13. Patton was accompanied by state Advisor for National Highways, Dr Longrineken, according to a release from the Dy CMO’s Media Cell.
The release stated that rockslide at Pakala Pahar on NH-29 owing to the ongoing four-lane constructions had caused immense hardships to commuters and affected the passage of essential commodities. In this regard, the Dy CM is said to have instructed the Executive Director of National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) to take maximum public safety into consideration and ensure quality workmanship.
He also appealed citizens to understand the technical and practical aspects of the works and extend all possible cooperation in this ongoing mega project.
Advisor Dr Longrineken also urged the NHIDCL and department officials to maintain quality workmanship and to give priority on durability of the road. The Advisor also directed the NHIDCL officials to ensure timely completion of the ongoing work.
The release stated that Patton also visited the by-pass road, to see the condition and feasibility of the 18.5 km road from Dimapur to Kohima via 7th mile Khopanala and New Medziphema site, which will be used an alternative route during the four-lane construction at NH-29.
During his interaction with the department officials at the proposed site the Chief Engineer (H) & Urban Engineering Wing, Er Yanbemo Lotha stated that the repair and restoration work of the existing road has already started and assured that it will be completed at the earliest possible time, the release stated.
The Dy CM was also accompanied by Advisor for CAWD & NSDMA Kazheto Kinimi, Engineer-In-Chief (NPWD), Chief Engineer (NH) and Chief Engineer (H) & Urban Engineering wing, Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Police, Dimapur and department officials, it added.
