Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today said that the State Government is “very unhappy” with the recent incident at Lamhainamdi area where unidentified gunmen killed 3 persons over land dispute, and called for amicable settlement of any dispute in future.
“The Government is very unhappy while the State Home Minister has also condemned the incident along with several civil societies and we are one of mind and fully condemn such act,” he told reporters today. In order to avoid recurrence of such incidents, police personnel have been deployed and they are engaged in containing the situation, he said adding, “In future if there is any dispute also it should be settled amicably.”
Pointing to the resignation of Western Sumi Hoho president on moral ground because of the incident, Rio welcomed the decision saying leaders should be firm to tackle such issues and there should be no room for compromise.
On State Government’s intervention, Rio said police have set up a SIT to enquire into it and the process is on. The Government is serious about the loss of precious lives and we will deal with it as a criminal act, he said.
On reports of IR personnel present at the site of the incident, Rio said the SIT will investigate whether IR personnel were present during the incident or not.
On the time frame for the SIT, he said it should not take too long.
