The ‘Rising People’s Party’ – a Nagaland based political party has been officially registered with The Election Commission of India (ECI) on June 7, 2021. This makes the new political outfit the youngest political party of Nagaland.

The party members had a thanksgiving prayer over Zoom for successful registration of the party on Monday.

For those who follow the local news, the president of the new party – Joel Naga needs little introduction. Joel was one of the founding members of Action Committee Against Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) – of which he became president later. During that time he helped expose pressing issues like fuel adulteration and backdoor appointments.

Talking about his new party to Insidene.com, Joel said “Basically, we have to enter the system and change the system, that is the basic goal. Shouting from outside, nothing was changing. So the best way to change it is by joining active politics. That is our singular vision.”

He also envisions that Nagaland will see a woman MLA through his party.

With the state general elections due in February 2023, the party will hope to make inroads into Nagaland’s politics.
