State Govt calls off Hornbill festival

The Nagaland state government, during a cabinet meeting on 7th Dec. 2021 has decided to call off the remaining days of the ongoing Hornbill festival.

As per reports, this is to express solidarity with the Konyaks and “to hold a spirit of oneness with them as they mourn”.

It may be mentioned that on 5th Dec., 14 Nagas were killed by Indian army forces in a botched up operation in Mon district of Nagaland which cost the lives of innocent civilians.

This has caused widespread resentment and festivities all over Nagaland has been put on hold.
