Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Thursday inaugurated the Regional Centre for Sporting Excellence (RSCE) at Sovima, Chumoukedima district.
The RSCE presently consists of an Archery Academy, Shooting Centre, Motor Sports and Futsal Centre.
Rio said that Nagas need the right platform to excel. He said Nagas are known for physical fitness and love for sports, adding from time immemorial Nagas were physically fit and had traditional games, athletics and wrestling and indigenous games.
The Chief Minister reminded that today in the extreme competitive games, one has to know the formula, the method and scientific approach to the game and said for this one needs facilities and infrastructure to promote the youths.
Bhaichung Bhutia, who also spoke on the occasion, stressed on the need to change the mindset of people towards sports. He said people need to change their mentality to be “sporty”. “It is now about earning money, but also to be healthy”, he said.
Others who spoke on the occasion include Gaurav Gill, Arjuna Awardee and FIA Asia Pacific Rally Champion, Abu Metha advisor to CM and Sebastian Zumvu, Chairman, Sovima Village Council.
