ENPO to allow Sumis of Kiphire and Shamator to join Frontier Naga Territory

The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) has made a significant decision to include the Sumis of Kiphire and Shamator districts in its movement demanding the creation of a Frontier Naga Territory. This resolution was reached during an executive meeting of the ENPO held on 30 June in Dimapur.

According to a press release issued by the ENPO, the decision to include the Sumis of Kiphire and Shamator districts was made after receiving empowerment from various tribal councils and committees. The Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC), United Sangtam Likhum Bumji (USLB), Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC), and the ENPO sub-committee for Eastern Sumi Hoho issue empowered the ENPO executive to make decisions regarding the inclusion or exclusion of Sumis in the ENPO movement.

To further discuss the way forward, the ENPO has called for a joint coordination meeting with the Eastern Sumi Hoho on 4 July. The meeting will take place at Hotel Saramati in Dimapur, starting at 10 am. The ENPO has urged the presidents of all federating tribal bodies and frontal organizations to attend this coordination meeting.

While acknowledging the busy schedules of the tribal bodies and frontal organizations, the ENPO emphasized the urgency of the matter, leading to the decision to convene the coordination meeting. The organization has requested the presidents of tribal and frontal organizations, as well as ENPO executives, to participate in the meeting.

The inclusion of the Sumis of Kiphire and Shamator districts marks a significant development in the ENPO’s movement for a Frontier Naga Territory. This move aims to strengthen the demand for a separate administrative unit and represents a united front among various Naga tribes in Eastern Nagaland. The joint coordination meeting scheduled for 4 July will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to deliberate on the future course of action and work together towards achieving their shared aspirations. – Agencies
