This fast growing perennial plant called stink vine, skunk vine or chinese fever fine with scientific name Paederia foetida has many health benefits.
The plant is native to temperate and tropical Asia – Bangladesh, many provinces of China like Yunnan, Sichuan; many Indian states like Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur; Indonesia; Japan and so on.
Skunk vine or stink vine has many health benefits and medicinal uses like:
- Infertility
The leaves of the plant is useful in treating infertility in men. Consuming this herb regularly increases male fertility by improving sperm count and strength.
- Tootache
Skunk vine is used for treatment of toothache.
- Intestinal complaints
They are commonly used for the treatment of intestinal complaints such as abdominal pain, colic, cramps, flatulence and dysentery. The juice of the leaves is considered astringent, and is used to treat diarrhoea in children.
- Arthritis
Decoctions of the plant showed significant anti-inflammatory action against arthritis. It also exhibited marked activity against degenerative osteo-arthritis.
- Swellings and bruises
Applied externally, the leaves are used to treat swellings and bruises in general, and are mashed then applied for earache, ulcerations of the nose and swollen eyes.
- Fever and cold
The plant has properties that are effective for curing cold, fever and boosting immunity.
- Anti-cancer properties
The leaves has shown anticancer activity against human epidermoid carcinoma of the nasopharynx.
- Urinary retention
It increases production of urine. The boiled and mashed leaves are applied to the abdomen for urinary retention.
