State agencies across the country, sports bodies and corporate companies are queuing up to reward the 21-year-old from Hyderabad and take pride in felicitating her. The cash rewards in store for her have already crossed Rs 10 crore.
Chief Minister of her home state of Telangana, K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday announced a cash award of Rs.5 crore. He also announced a 1,000 square yard house site in Hyderabad and a government job for Sindhu. Rao also declared a cash prize of Rs.1 crore for Sindhu’s coach Pullela Gopichand for his badminton academy.
Even before Telangana could announce that, the state of Andhra Pradesh had announced a slew of rewards for Sindhu including Rs 3 crore in cash. “We will give her 1,000 sq yds of house site in the state’s new capital Amaravati and also a Group-1 officer post in the state government. She can choose the post she wants,” AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said. The government would also award Rs 50 lakh to Sindhu’s coach Pullela Gopichand for mentoring her,” he said.
Earlier, the Delhi government announced a cash reward of Rs 2 crore to Sindhu and 1 crore to RIo bronze medallist wrestler Sakshi Malik.
Sindhu is also set to receive Rs 50 lakh from the Badminton Association of India and another Rs 50 lakh from the Madhya Pradesh government.
A top jewellery showroom chain in Vijayawada has already shown interest to sign up Sindhu as their brand ambassador. Several real estate developers are likely to gift flats to promote their prestigious ventures in IT corridor. Car maker Mahindra and Mahindra will gift one of their famous SUVs to Sindhu. Of course, she’ll have the right to choose the car.
Surely, this is just the start. Rest assured, there will be many to be attached with athletes like Sindhu and Sakshi who have made India proud.
