With the Governor and central BJP leaders acknowledging that the ongoing crisis is an internal matter of the NPF party, G Kaito Aye is inching close to the Chief Minister’s chair as he has the majority support of NPF legislators.
Governor PB Acharya has reportedly told NPF legislators supporting G Kaito Aye that the ongoing crisis cannot be settled on the floor of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
On Friday 22 NPF legislators supporting Kaito met the Governor.
Imkong Imchen, spokesperson of Kaito group stated that as per Article 174 of the Constitution of India, the Governor is not compelled to summon or prorogue the assembly on the advice of the “minority cabinet” led by chief minister, TR Zeliang.
State BJP president Dr Chuba Ao, who is currently camping in Delhi along with BJP legislators said that the central BJP leaders are also unanimous that the present crisis is not a constitutional problem but an NPF intra-party problem which the BJP should not interfere into.
On the other hand, the TR Zeliang camp says that there was no other alternative but to seek constitutional method of ending the crisis where the cabinet recommended a special session of the assembly (about which Governor is not very enthusiastic)
The “Black money” issue has not helped Chief Minister TR Zeliang’s cause. All these factors clubbed together may eventually help Kaito to acquire the much coveted Chief Minister’s chair.
