Nagaland Health minister S. Pangnyu Phom, on behalf of the state government and the Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) department, tendered an apology for the May 26 Tuensang incident.
In an apology letter addressed to the president of Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation, Pangnyu Phom said that as a member of the cabinet and as minister in charge of H&FW department, apologizes and expressed sincere regrets over the unfortunate incident relating to shifting of 168 returnees of Chennai from the quarantine centre at Kohima to Tuensang.
He said the incident occurred due to communication gap and expressed regret that the people of Tuensang had to undergo a time of anxiety and understandable anger. Soon after the incident, Pangnyu said proper SOPs were put in place to overcome such gaps.
Further, Pangnyu appealed to the people of Tuensang and Eastern Nagaland to condone the error in the spirit of forgive and forget and extend support as members of Team Nagaland to jointly fight the pandemic.
