BD Jangade, General Manager of the NHIDCL (National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited) has been arrested by the police in Mokokchung on corruption charges, NE Now News has reported.
A video of the GM accepting bribe has gone viral. In the video, Jangade purportedly says a ‘contractor’ that he never accepts “0.5% commission” and demands a “1% commission”.
Besides, Deputy Commissioner of Mokukchung, Nagaland has reportedly ordered for initiating criminal proceedings against BD Jangade “under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988”, NE Now News reported.
Meanwhile, the NHIDCL has ordered for immediate repatriation of BD Jangade to his parent body – Border Roads Organisation.
“…the Competent Authority of NHIDCL has approved immediate repatriation of Sh Bhagwan Das Jangade, GO-002761K Executive Engineer (Civ), Border Roads Organisation, who has been serving as General Manager (P) in NHIDCL on deputation basis w.e.f 21.01.2019 (FN) with immediate effect,” an office order of the NHIDCL read.
“Sh BD Jangade…is accordingly, relieved of his duties in NHIDCL with the direction to report for duty to his parent Department viz. Border Roads Organisation,” the order further read.
“Prima Facie it appears that Sh BD Jangade may be involved in these suspicious activities (corruption),” the NHIDCL said in its order.
BJP Leader Swetha Reddy is also seen condemning the official in a widely circulated YouTube video.
