Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha for Nagaland Tokheho Yepthomi in a press conference today at Hotel Acacia Dimapur touched upon some key points mainly related to the state’s economy.
He mentioned that Assam is collecting about Rs 10,000 crores yearly in disputed oil areas bordering Nagaland and Nagaland is losing Rs 5 Crore a day in the process due to inactivity. The MP mentioned about Numaligarh refinery in Assam which is being increased to 9 million metric tons capacity, for which central government is spending Rs 28000 Crores. It is to be commissioned by March 2024 and will be among the biggest refineries in the country.
Tokheho mentioned that Nagaland is the only state in India without a medical college. He mentioned that tender not called for Mon medical college even after laying the foundation stone for some years.
The MP said that Nagaland has the an unemployment rate which is the highest in the country. 7000 youth graduate from college every year which is adding to the problem.
Touching on the power/ electricity crisis in the state, the MP said that the power situation is hampering business and purchase of power is contributing to state’s financial deficit.
The Lok Sabha MP also said that absence of cold storage for fruits and vegetables in the state resulting in huge revenue loss.
