The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) Legislature Party has unanimously elected Neiphiu Rio as leader of the NDPP Legislature Party, and endorsed him to take the prerogative of forming the new government.
On the other hand, alliance partner Bharatiya Janata Party is yet to elect their Legislature Party leader, who by default will be the Deputy chief minister. Some BJP leaders have dashed of to meet Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati for discussions.
Chief Minister Rio is scheduled to meet BJP central leadership in Delhi to discuss government formation after which the new government is expected to be sowrn in on March 6-7, as per NDPP MLA TR Zeliang.
Meanwhile, other “smaller” parties are huddled in Kohima expecting a slice of the pie in the new government.
As NDPP-BJP are comfortably placed with 37 seats to for the new government, it waits to be seen if other parties will be accommodated or not.
