Dimapur Railway Station in Nagaland will be upgraded into a world-class facility. Work will commence in the first week of March, officials confirmed, as reported by PTI.
The project, which had been delayed due to land-related issues, is now set to move forward following a coordination meeting held at the Dimapur Deputy Commissioner’s office.
The meeting brought together officials from Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), the Dimapur district administration, state Transport Department, and civil society representatives, all of whom reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the project’s success.
Dimapur railway station, which has served as a crucial transport hub for over a century, has been selected under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme for its redevelopment into a world-class station.
Despite the Centre allocating Rs 283 crore for the project, execution had been stalled due to land-related issues.
With these concerns now being addressed, the work is set to begin within the current financial year and is expected to be completed in three years.
Chief Engineer (Construction), NFR Guwahati, Nilmani Brahma, assured the public that the contract work has already been awarded, stating that the contract work for the up-gradation of Dimapur railway station has already been awarded, and it will start very soon within this financial year and is slated to be completed in three years.
Railway authorities have also urged local residents to refrain from constructing illegal structures on railway land, warning that encroachments would hamper the development project.
In addition to upgrading Dimapur railway station, the doubling of railway tracks between Lumding and Furkating in Assam via Dimapur has also been sanctioned.
Brahma confirmed that both projects would be undertaken simultaneously, boosting railway connectivity and enhancing transport infrastructure in the region.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Tinojongshi Chang, highlighted that discussions also centred around encroachment issues, with the administration and civil societies agreeing to work together to resolve them.
Chang stated that the meeting also discussed the encroachment of railway land, and it was decided that the administration and civil societies would verify the issue and proceed with necessary actions to develop a world-class station in Dimapur.
